Spotlight: Animal Patrons Volunteers

Patron Volunteers work tirelessly behind the scenes. Fielding calls from people in distress; co-ordinating volunteers, logistics and donations; meeting and greeting visitors to the Distribution Centre; administration; fundraising and so much more.

We’d like to introduce you to our inaugural Patron Volunteers, who are the heartbeat of Animal Patrons Australia.

Animal Patrons Australia Volunteers

Monique Peachman, Patron Services – Volunteer Manager

Monique is a founding Patron of this community. From the very first day of taking donations, Monique has been a constant presence in all of our actions. She has implemented our robust inventory system with over 500 product lines, co-ordinates all volunteer activity, develops our processes and procedures and in the first week of donations personally counted and inventoried over 1.4 tonne of product, consisting of literally tens of thousands of items.

Monique has spent much of her life donating her time, energy and skills for the benefit of animals. She spent two weeks in Nepal volunteering at the Kathmandu Animal Treatment Centre and in August 2020 will be spending two weeks at the Namibia Wildlife Sanctuary. She’s a proud foster fail and between international advocacy work, you’ll find her working tirelessly behind the scenes at Animal Patrons Australia, local rescues and sanctuaries.

Volunteering for APA is important to me as I like to give back to the ones that do not have a voice and cannot speak up for themselves.

Melanie Hutchins, Sanctuary Co-ordinator

We count our lucky stars for the day a message from Melanie pinged in our newly-minted email address. Melanie’s friendly communication, experience with animals, professional skills, enthusiasm and kindness emanated from that email and we immediately knew she’d quickly become an integral part of our team.

In her role as Sanctuary Co-ordinator, Melanie is the dedicated point of contact for sanctuaries, shelters and rescues. She works with primary carers across Australia to determine crisis, urgent and ongoing needs; maintains detailed sanctuary portfolio cards; prepares orders for dispatch by the Distribution Centre; prepares the weekly supplies list and provides a compassionate and kind ear to carers, often in high levels of distress.

You can always be confident that regardless of how stressful the circumstances, Melanie will greet you with joy and make you feel happy to have encountered her.

Volunteering with Animal Patrons Australia is important to me because it provides me with the opportunity to work with a group of people that share the same passions that I do, and I can do more for animals/carers in need when and where I can. Animals have and always will be a huge part of my life! I have a lot of respect for people on the frontline that dedicate their lives to saving wildlife and animals in need selflessly, so any way I can give them a helping hand I will. I’m very grateful for Karan giving me this opportunity.

Anna Zarpan, Patron Engagement – Events Manager

Anna is the person you meet who literally makes you smile in her presence. She’s equal parts quiet achiever, foodie, adventurer, social advocate, explorer and sista with style.

Anna has a long history of working with social enterprises, community causes and advocating to make the world a better place. She knows her way around an event, too. With experience balanced across major Melbourne events and grassroots community events, Anna knows how to put an event together on a big budget, or one with a shoestring budget to deliver a wonderfully engaging event experience.

Luci Award, Patron Engagement – Marketing Manager

When you’re powered by (vego) spaghetti, anything is possible. And, Luci is the kind of gal that can literally make the impossible possible. Then, it’s probably fair to say that this is a super-power of all Patrons!

Luci, or Lovely Luci as she’s so-often called, brings exceptional communications and marketing skills to the team. She also wears the badge of foster failure. Possibly her only failure in life, but one worn with pride (and rightly so).

You? Patron Engagement – Community Manager

We are desperately seeking the support of a Community Manager to assist with our social media channels and Facebook Groups. If you love connecting a community, understand the nuances of creating and publishing social content and have a vibrant (online) persona, we’d love to hear from you!

Volunteering at Animal Patrons Australia means working alongside people who lead with kindness in the face of adversity. If you have time or skills to contribute to our efforts, we’d love to hear from you.
